About Me!

Daniel Fletcher began his flute studies by stealing his mother’s flute out of her closet and printing out a fingering chart. Little did he know that he would end up falling in love with it and pursuing it as a career. He is now a soon to be graduate of the University of North Texas College of Music and regularly freelances and competes.

Daniel has loved playing in competitions. Competitions provide a great sense of community among contestants, and the stakes push him to be the best soloist that he can be. Daniel was a winner of the 2021 San Diego Flute Guild Winter Retreat Young Artist Competition, 2020 Da Capo Alliance Young Artist Competition, 2020 NFA Masterclass Competition, and the 2020 DMTA Performance Prize Contest. He won second prize at the 2021 Wisconsin Flute Festival Collegiate Artist Competition and the 2020 Maverick Flute Soloist Competition and was selected as an Alternate Finalist for the 2020 NFA Orchestral Excerpts and Masterclass Competition.

Daniel has a passion for teaching, and has taught privately for 5 years. It is important to him to instill a community-wide appreciation for music to justify the continuance of classical music in concert halls. As a student, he served as President of the North Texas Music Educators’ Association. In this position, he helped coordinate instrument petting zoos for elementary aged children, hosted guest lectures, and oversaw the Jazz Pedagogy program and the Eagle Ensemble.

Daniel is currently a Senior in Flute Performance and Music Education at the University of North Texas. Since attending UNT, he has been the piccolo player of the UNT Wind Ensemble, the North Texas Symphony Orchestra, and the UNT Opera. He was part of the North Texas Flute Choir that performed at the 2020 NFA Convention. Daniel's primary teachers include Terri Sundberg, James Scott, Won Lee, Brittney Balkcom, and Tia Jaynes.
